Wellies Ahoy

As I prep food, pack numerous bags and set about swotting up on the very many bands set to play to Electric Picnic this weekend I find myself also browsing Hunter for the festival staple - wellies. Don't get me wrong - my black boots which I trampled about in during Oxegen last year are certainly useful but I long to snatch a pair or two of these classics...

Or these chocolatey, sophisticated things...

Bizarrely, the most covetable of the styles is designed exclusively for use in sport. Pfft I say. These would be perfect with a combination of Acne grey slim jeans, white tank or tee and that blazer I bought recently. After all, if neoprene's good enough for McQueen it will definitely do me.

Can't believe Kate chose such a dreary pair from such an exciting collection...

Love for Junk de Luxe

I had one of those rather infrequent [for me] label-love days yesterday. While doing some pre-lunch browsing in TK Maxx I happened upon this particularly swoon-worthy blazer from Junk de Luxe. I had seen pieces from the AW collection earlier in the day at a more expensive and much less favourable - in my opinion - store - BT2, but I hadn't noticed this deep, deliciously grey beauty.

I'd seen the Junk de Luxe a handful of times on various shopping excursions, however I'd never pay much attention due to my horribly ignorant, entirely bizarre, subconscious association of the brand name with Juicy Couture. The two, as I'm sure you all know, could not be further apart in aesthetic.

The site offers more slickly styled Scandinavian pieces - each and every one undeniably covetable. Oh, and it was just 59.99 euro.

Geller, wunderkind once more.

Having waxed lyrical regarding Robert Geller a while back I was highly delighted to find a succinct yet informative interview conducted by Robert Cordero in a recent issue of JC Report. Geller recalls how his innovation in the realm of menswear began with the interest of a foreign investor and also tells of his most intriguing sources of inspiration including mid-19th century Prussia.

In the AW 0809 collection his inspiration is evident. Thick, sizeable knits, robust leathers, heavy military coats and don't-fuck-with-me denim are fitting for the modern counterparts of the soldiers of the Schleswig Wars.

Another fashion-film hybrid...

Not being content with the acclaimed and renowned 'Trembled Blossoms' Miuccia Prada has once again sought to fuse the worlds of fashion and film. This time 'round, nine talented and so very individual directors were requested to craft a short inspired by the "sensory associations" of the delectable fragrance - Infusion d'Homme.

Must really recommend you check out Guga's 'Evolution'. That is, of course, if you haven't the time to enjoy each and every one of these thought-provoking and often heart-warming masterpieces.

Man-hating Leakers and Comme Des Garcons for H&M

It's finally online, well, at least a fraction of it. That's right, no longer need we endure those unrelenting bouts of anticipation and excitation - the Comme Des Garcons for H&M collection has revealed a tantalising taste of its wonder over at W Magazine.

It seems the male denomination of Kawakubo's legion of fans must go without as those that leak the depictions of the capsule collection choose only to show us the womenswear. Alas, as always, when it comes to H&M women truly did win the lottery of life.

Anywhat, I'm hoping the deconstructed, blackest-of-black jackets and host of Victorian ruffles seen above will also appear in the mens offering. Looks incorporating the SS09 CdG aesthetic [below] would be particularly delectable. Oh, and no skirts please, Rei.

Black is best....or maybe not.

Patrik Ervell

Tim Hamilton

Following the previous White Shirt and Classic Sunglasses projects arrives the all new Black Trouser Project from retail mammoth Arcadia's most cherished son - Topman. Never before have the Topman team excelled themselves to such a degree in recruiting some of the most talented, ingenious menswear designers of our time: Patrik Ervell [yus!], Tim Hamilton [perfect for this particular collaboration], Todd Lynn [the black trouser is a rock staple, after all], Ann-Sofie Back [a more suitable choice would be pretty unattainable], Aitor Throup [that mass of black and saxophones is bound to translate well here] and Topman Design.

Gordon Richardson on the project:

"The brief to design a future classic black trouser has to be one of the most challenging for a men's wear designer," said Gordon Richardson, Topman design and product development director. "Each of the hand-picked designers contributing to the Black Trousers project have managed to design a pair that not only reflects their own design aesthetic but challenges the existing Topman one. All immediately desirable, wearable and ultimately collectable."

Although it's all - ultimately - rather disappointing I do quite like the Ervell and Back pairs...love for the former could just be related to the superb styling but I'm undecided.

Also, I know they're striving for that edgy, scene aesthetic which so epitomises Topman's target market but this unnecessary contortion is beginning to be tiresome.
